Superb – male superb fairy wren (Malurus cyaneus)
The bright blue and inky black plumage of the male superb fairy wren is a common sight throughout eastern Australia. But being small and bright blue can be a bit risky, so they change their colour each year from a soft, dull brown in winter to their distinctive bright blue during the breeding season.
These clever little birds are also preparing for the harsher weather conditions they are experiencing as a result of climate change, by adjusting the size of their eggs and giving their chicks a better chance of survival.
